Should you buy the new gen Hyundai I20?

Hyundai is a Korean company which is well known for its feature loaded, long durable and easy to maintain cars. They have come a long way and now they are the 2nd major car selling company in India.

The car line up varies from small cars to full size SUVs in India. The most recent launch from the company is the 3rd generation I20 which is a hot sell for the company in the premium hatchback segment in India.

So now let's come back to the question haunting everyone's mind, should you buy this new gen I20?

STYLE

First let's start with the looks oh....boy it's changed a lot from it's predecessor...have to say it's got many curves here and there. The front is now more stylish and low slung to improve it's aero-dynamic design. Hexagonal mesh grill with black finishing does look appealing and you also get turbo badging on the turbo petrol variant. Has got projector head lamps, LED DRL's, cornering headlamps, projector fog lamps. At the side we can say the 16 inch alloys matches with the profile very well. At the back we have Z- shaped LED tail lamps and overall look is aggressively styled. Here some might not like the design and some might like, it's on personal taste. I personally liked it.

ENGINE

Next let's jump to the main heart of the car.... Ohhh yess you are right, "ENGINE😍". You have three engine options available.
1) 1.2 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine.
    Power: 82 HP.
    Torque: 115 N-M.
    Mileage: 19 kmpl.

2) 1.0 liter turbo petrol engine.
    Power: 120 HP.
    Torque: 172 N-M.
    Mileage: 20 kmpl.

3) 1.5 liter diesel engine.
    Power: 100 HP.
    Torque: 240 N-M.
    Mileage: 25 kmpl.

The 1.5 liter diesel engine in this car is a great companion for your long tours. It is punchy enough for your quick overtakes and you don't even have to make frequent pit stops for fuel refilling as it gives you good mileage.

1.0 liter turbo petrol.. Hmm...okay it's neither as sportier as it is claimed nor is it dull... Hyundai have made a right decision to mate it with 7 speed DCT or 6 speed iMT(Intelligent Manual Transmission) and the things go well enough. But it gets things done to some extent. Overall it's a good engine.

Now comes the mightiest of all😝😜. Sorry 😂😅…but not sorry. This engine 1.2 liter NA petrol is no longer fun to drive. Honestly it comes with only 5 speed MT, which is good for city maneuver. This might be suitable for the one who drives it to get their daily home needs, etc...etc.....

INTERIORS

Now let's jump into the interiors. OH God... Hyundai, what have you done to your interiors? where are those premium touches of yours gone.? I'm really sorry to say but I'm not satisfied how the dash looks. Lots of hard and shiny plastics everywhere with no premium touches. At least dual tone interiors could have worked. ONCE AGAIN PERSONAL TASTE, SOME MIGHT LIKE THIS DESIGN.

Next let's go and take a nap in the rear … Yes you heard me right.... loads of legroom, headroom, it's back inclination angle is set so accurate that it resembles your comfort at home. Under thigh support can be increased.. But that's not an issue. 3 can fit comfortably, but not good enough for long trips. Over and all good rear seat comfort and space in its segment. Boot space is reasonably good. It has grown in width, in length and wheelbase. Size is (L*W*H*WB) 3995*1775*1505*2580(mm).

FEATURES

But when it comes to the features list Oh my my.....what's wrong with Hyundai...?.. No, they haven't done anything wrong 😂.. it's just that they have given lots of them. Starting with .....wait, the list is long let's rather do it point wise:
1) 10.25 inch touch screen with Android auto, apple car play, mirror link.
2) All connected car tech features.
3) Wireless charging.
4) Automatic climate control.
5) Fully digital instrument cluster.
6) Steering mounted controls.
7) Tilt and telescopic steering wheel.
8) Automatic headlamps.
Pheww....oh no wait there are some more ..

9) ABS, EBD, ESP, 6 AIRBAGS, ISOFIX CHILD MOUNTS.
10) Reverse parking camera and sensors.
11) Shark fin antenna.
12) Rear AC vents.
13) 2 charging ports ( front/rear) and 1 USB port.
14) 7 speaker Bose sound system.
15) Ambient lighting.
16) Boot space: 300 liter approx.
17) Electric sunroof.

Okay guys, that's enough of features now...

PRICE

Now coming to the main thing "PRICE!!!!!"... Looks scary right...?😁....yes it is.. it's priced between 6.79 to 11.32 lakhs. In this price range you get the elder sibling of I20. Yesss, you get Hyundai Venue and it's so called cousin rival Kia Sonet too. But some want premium hatchbacks for their good reasons. It's left to you to choose wisely.

CONCLUSION

Let's sum it up in this way. It is pricy compared to other competitions in this premium hatchback segment. Although you get additional features to it, they might not be worth spending lakhs together. Overall, it's a very good car to drive, handle, get lots of features. One in all Hyundai has played safe and have re-entered this segment with a great car. Keep it up Hyundai.
