Cousin's rivalry: Hyundai Creta V/S Kia Seltos

Hyundai Creta V/S Kia Seltos

Now let's get started with the hot and spicy cousin's rivalry which is by far the most interesting one i.e. Creta V/S Seltos... let us begin....

Now to start this comparison we have to time travel a little bit. No No No.....not 100 years back, but just 6 years back in 2014 (little bad at cracking jokes...please do bare with me😅😜).

Okay let's comeback, in 2014 when Hyundai launched Creta, it took the market by storm and became the undisputed crowned head of the segment with it's SUV stance looks, features, price etc etc...it was worth every single buck you spent. It ruled the segment for around 5 years, then in 2019 came it's Korean cousin to Indian market with it's till date successful product i.e. Kia Seltos... YESS!!!! with a boom it entered the Indian market. It had created a lot of fuss and it proved to be right. It had very high number of bookings, highest sales and people were crazy to buy Seltos even now they are!!. It snatched the crown from it's cousin. But this wasn't for long. In 2020 new gen Creta came back to the market to retain it's throne and snatched the crown once again to rule the segment.

Let's start our discussion by considering all the aspects one by one:

DESIGN:

Let's start talking about how they look. In the looks department, they are very distinct from each other. Seltos is the one with a sharp-looking design and has a little aggressive styling at the front with all LED lights, DRL's, indicators, and that aggressively styled nose, the signature tiger-nose grille which you can see on all the KIA cars with some tweaks. At the side it has got 17 & 16 inch alloy wheels based on models and if you opt for the GT line variant, then you get some red elements outside and inside the car to make it a sporty looking car. At the rear, it has got an LED tail lamp and a rear wiper.

If we talk about Creta then it has some mixed reactions in the looks department. It looks very round from the outside. Let me tell you a scenario, the old Creta can be compared to the kid before going to Grandparent's house and the new Creta is the same kid which has now returned all chubby and round because your granny loves you so much and so do you ....!!!! (You know what I mean😅😜). Still, some might like it for its distinct design, and doesn't resemble any other car, So in the looks department, I leave it on you guys. Creta also gets all-LED treatments as Seltos, 17 inch alloys and also led tail lights. I personally like Seltos

2. INTERIOR:

Talking about interiors they too are distinct. The one on the Seltos looks upmarket because of the elements they have used like chrome elements, brushed aluminum elements, etc... one on the Creta also looks very good but it's a little bit plasticky... addition of some piano black or other might have given more premium feel. But never the less both cars will give you a premium feel. On both cars, you get all-black interiors or a combination of beige and black based on the model you choose. Both are spacious at rear, good amount of legroom, headroom, and under-thigh support, have comfortable front seats. But the rear in Creta is nicely cushioned where as Seltos is a little firm in nature. You got the same boot space at 430 liters. Leather upholstery on top models. Rear armrest with cup holders on both cars. You get rear headrest.

3. ENGINE & DRIVABILTY:

1.5 ltr petrol

1.4 ltr turbo GDI

1.5 ltr diesel

This talk... I never want to end....please....! can't we do that.???😭...It's okay...I'll adjust.

Let us start discussing? Shall we? let's do it then.

Basically Kia and Hyundai have got the same engine options with gearboxes so let me tell about them first and then let us discuss about if there's some addition.

Engine: 1.5 liter petrol:115 HP, 144 NM torque.

1.5 liter diesel:113 HP, 250 NM torque.

1.4 GDI turbo petrol: 140 HP, 242 NM torque.

Seltos gearbox:

Creta gearbox:

Manual(common):

Gearbox: 6-speed manual transmission, 6-speed torque converter automatic, and 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission(DCT).

The combination of engine and gearboxes depends on the variants, which you'll get to know when you go to showroom😅. If I'll start explaining, you'll get confused and even I might get confused😆😆.

Drivability ....!!! let's make it short and simple. Kia is a purely driver's car, with less body roll, stiffer suspension, a well-weighted steering wheel, and good stability around the corner. If you are an enthusiast like me.. go for Seltos. On the other hand, Creta is no less in any aspect, but it is softer in each aspect!! softer suspension, lighter steering wheel, you can feel body roll, but it's way comfier than Seltos. If you want a plush and stable ride go for Creta. Power is not a problem in both the cars, they are very neck to neck and even we can say similar.

Mileage varies from 15 to 20 KMPL based on the engine and gearbox you choose. It may also provide more than 20 based on your driving style and situation. OHH wait wait!! I almost forgot.. I mean.... I literally forgot to tell you one important thing. i.e., Creta has got paddle shifters which are very handy and useful while overtaking. Okay, let's jump to the next segment.

4. FEATURES:

OH GOD....!!! this one's gonna take time because both these cars comes loaded with host of features. We'll do it again in my style... 😁😁. let us list out the common features and then we'll list out the special one's.

Common Features: Auto LED headlamps, auto climate control, 10.25 touchscreen, android auto/apple car play, reverse parking camera & sensors, 6 airbags, ABS/EBD/ESC, all-disc brakes, cruise control, steering mounted controls, Auto IRVM/ORVM(Inside/Outside Rear View Mirror), air purifier, Rear AC vents, wireless charging, BOSE sound system, connected car tech, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, powered driving seats, tire pressure monitor system, driving modes and traction modes for automatic and may be the list goes on and on ...!!! I mean aren't these enough??

Okay let's list out the special ones now:

CRETA:

Panoramic sunroof, paddle shifter, electronic parking brakes, part digital instrument cluster, puddle lamps, reclining backseats, tilt steering.

SELTOS:

Sunroof, head's up display, front parking sensors, blind-spot camera, 360-degree camera, automatic rain-sensing wipers, tilt, and telescopic steering.

NCAP safety ratings: CRETA: 4 stars.

SELTOS: 3 stars.

5. PRICE:

I'll not stretch this topic for long, because there is hardly (+/-)10 - 20k difference in their respective models. Very neck to neck competition in this pricing segment.

CRETA: Rs. 9.81 - 17.32 lakhs.

SELTOS: Rs. 9.9 - 17.5 lakhs.

6. VERDICT:

What can I say? I mean is there anything left to say to these lovely Korean cousins!! After talking so long about Seltos and Creta, I guess you all might be confused about which one to choose? No worries... I'll help you guys to choose a perfect one. If you are an enthusiast and love to drive then no doubt you can choose Kia seltos but if you like a relaxed weekend drive or need a plush and comfortable ride within the city then no doubt you choose Creta. Some of you might also consider cars for their looks. But I can guarantee you that no matter which one you choose you'll not regret it because both the cars are very good in the main aspects on which you all buy a car. One car has a feature that other doesn't. Soooo!!! we can do one thing and i.e., .... choose wisely.
